Our 5 tips for sustainable children's fashion

Would you really like sustainable children's fashion for your little ones, but are unsure what to look out for? Then you've come to the right place! We have 5 valuable tips for you that you can easily use!

Our 5 tips for sustainable children's fashion

1. Go for gender-neutral clothes

We live in a world that is becoming more and more open and allows room for maneuver - also when it comes to children's fashion. This is why many items of clothing can now be worn by girls and boys alike.

The practical thing about this is that such clothes can be passed on to siblings or friends at any time. And it doesn't matter whether they are of the same sex or not. This increases the potential use of the clothes enormously and automatically makes them more sustainable.

In our range, you will also find some beautiful pieces that know absolutely no gender. For example, the jacket and trousers from our FINN series or our ASH waistcoat.

2. When it comes to sustainable children's fashion, quality is more important than quantity.

You know what? A child's wardrobe doesn't have to be bulging from bottom to top. It is more important that it contains high-quality and sustainable children's fashion. These are more durable and long-lasting than mass-produced off-the-peg clothes!

How can you recognize such clothes? Quite simply: by the material! So, when shopping, look very carefully and pay attention to the fabrics the items are made of. If possible, always go for clothing made from fair and natural materials instead of synthetic ones. Because that's exactly what distinguishes sustainable eco-labels in the children's fashion sector!

At zimt&grün, we prefer to use Tencel (also known as Lyocell). This is made from wood fibers and is considered a true innovation in the fashion industry. Not only is it 100% biodegradable, but the production process itself conserves resources and energy. We source all our Tencel from a Circular Fabric Standard certified partner in Italy. The same applies to sustainable virgin wool, which we also love to work with. The third important material in the bunch is high-quality cotton. We get this from our GOTS-certified partner in the Netherlands.

3. Wash your clothes with care

Frequent washing can cause our clothes to fade, stretch or even shrink more quickly. So, the motto here is: only wash when it's really necessary.

We advise you to take care of our zimt&grün clothes carefully and considerately. Our wool-blend jacket and trousers, for example, should never be washed at over 30 degrees. However, hand washing is even better and recommended, as this method is simply the gentlest.

4. Ecological children's fashion? Find out about the brands!

If you want to go for sustainable children's fashion, it is important that you take some time before or during shopping. Because: It is not always immediately clear whether it is really an eco-label for children's clothing or not.

Always research who is behind the brand, what material is used for the clothes, where they are produced, and whether they pay attention to fair processes. Labels and brands that are serious about sustainability will provide all the important facts on their website and won't leave you in the dark.

5. Pass it on instead of letting it gather dust

We already touched on our last point in passing, but it is simply so important that we would like to make it very clear once again: Sustainable children's fashion should never be left to gather dust in a cupboard or box once your child has outgrown it. The clothes are far too good for that!

Instead, sell, lend or give them away to ensure that the valuable products last as long as possible - that way everyone gets the most out of them.
